Fun Social Distancing Activities on the Coast

Most of us really did not think we’d be ending the year STILL in a pandemic. We had high hopes it would be under control by the end of summer. Unfortunately, Covid is still spreading so we’ve had to change some plans and adapt to the current situation. You don’t have to give up on your beach getaway, though! You can still visit and have plenty of fun while safely socially distancing. Here are some of our favorite things to do locally. 

Explore the Parks 

If you love the beach and are looking for spots to get in some water activities, go to St. Andrews State Park. You can enjoy the soft, white sand, admire the coastal dunes, or even camp overnight at the campgrounds. There is a mile and a half of pristine beaches to dig your toes in or relax in the sun. 

Retail Therapy  

Pier Park is the best spot to find great shopping, dining, and fun. With over 120 stores, you’re sure to find anything you need while you’re in town. They have your usual shopping mall department stores as well as boutiques, jewelry stores, and surf shops. Grab dinner at one of the many restaurants available or take it to-go back to your Panama City Beach rental. Take a photo by the giant beach ball as a memento of your beach getaway.  

Book a Charter 

If you want to get out on the water, set up an excursion with Reel Commocean and enjoy a private boat charter. The Gulf Coast is amazing for fishing and your charter will provide you with the bait and tackle. Catch dinner for the crew or just head out and enjoy getting up close to dolphins and sea turtles.  

Enjoy a Sunset 

There is nothing like a gorgeous beach sunset. It’s the perfect way to end the day watching the sky light up with orange and pink hues near the water. Days are shorter in the winter but don’t miss out on the beautiful views. Take advantage of the ideal backdrop for family photos.  

Take a Hike 

Gayle’s Trails features boardwalks over the swamps, off-road trails perfect biking, hiking, or running. You’ll have miles and miles of paths with beautiful scenery to enjoy with the wind in your hair and sunshine on your skin. When many of us have been staying indoors as much as possible this year, getting outside with the fresh air is a welcome change of pace.
